About FreshLab

Fighting Food Waste with Natural Science

We're on a mission to extend the life of fresh produce, reduce global food waste, and build a more sustainable future.

Over one-third of all food produced globally is lost or wasted. A significant portion of this waste occurs in the fresh produce supply chain—between harvest and consumption—due to spoilage from bacteria, mold, moisture, and ethylene gas.

This isn't just an economic issue. Food waste is a major contributor to climate change, accounting for approximately 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

FreshLab directly addresses this challenge by extending the shelf life of fresh produce through natural, science-backed biotech solutions.

EU Green Deal Alignment

Our solution supports the EU's Farm to Fork Strategy goal of halving food waste at retail and consumer levels by 2030.

UN SDG 12.3

We contribute to Target 12.3: halving per capita global food waste at retail and consumer levels, and reducing food losses along production and supply chains.

Our Story

From Lab to Market

FreshLab was born from the pioneering research of CLOBIO, a Korean biotech team dedicated to solving post-harvest food loss through natural means.

In 2016, the Korean government recognized the potential of their innovation and provided funding to scale a unique formulation combining bentonite clay, beneficial microorganisms, and grapefruit seed extract.

After years of research, testing, and refinement, the result is a patented technology that controls the four main causes of spoilage—moisture, bacteria, mold, and ethylene—without electricity or synthetic chemicals.

Our Vision

Building a Fresher Future

Expanding our impact from Korea to Europe and beyond

Our vision is to make natural food preservation accessible to everyone—from large-scale agricultural operations to individual households.

We're starting our European expansion in Italy, a country with a rich agricultural heritage and strong commitment to food quality and sustainability.

By partnering with producers, logistics providers, retailers, and households across Europe, we aim to significantly reduce food waste and support the transition to a more sustainable food system.

European Expansion

Starting in Italy

Italy's focus on fresh, quality produce makes it the ideal entry point for FreshLab in Europe.

EU-Wide Growth

Expanding across the European Union to support the Farm to Fork Strategy's waste reduction goals.
